Interview
1. When did you start painting?
I started drawing when I was in elementary and painted professionally in 1990.
2. What made you want to paint, was it a childhood passion?
It was my first talent and became my job.
3. Did you attend art school? If not, where and how did you learn to paint?
No – I was self-taught
4. How long does it usually take you to complete a piece of art?
It depends on the size and mood. Due to practice, I can accomplish on artwork in an hour. When painting using the watercolor technique, it takes me about 30 minutes. The longest time I had had with painting was 3 months.
5. Do you paint certain hours each day or only when you are inspired?
I used to paint when I'm inspired but learned later on that when I am depressed, I paint more than I usually do.
6. What does painting mean to you?
Painting is my outlet, my own realm, my own world.
7. Who/what inspires you to paint?
Family.
8. What's the best thing about painting?
You get to be free to express ideas, convey your message to a wide audience, medium for communication. When painting, you don’t need to talk – the painting does it.
9. Which of your artwork pieces is your favorite?
Northscape Series
Why?
It is because I have been doing it for the past 10 years. I employed my favorite colours on the painting and because my inspiration, the Igorots, have been used as a theme.
10. What message do you have for aspiring painters?
The best advice I could give is my motto, which is “Practice makes Perfect.”_
